Human Rights Defender Representatives Hold Private Conversation with Arush Arushanyan in Police Custody

By the assignment of the Human Rights Defender, representatives of the office today held a private conversation with the head of the Goris community, Arush Arushanyan, in the Police’s detention facility in Yerevan. They examined the grounds for his deprivation of liberty and the condition of his rights protection, as well as the documents prepared by law enforcement agencies in this regard.

Specifically, today, Arush Arushanyan’s lawyer, David Karapetyan, reported early in the morning to the Defender's office about the alerts regarding his unknown whereabouts and the inability to participate in the criminal proceedings in order to provide legal assistance to A. Arushanyan. Additionally, the lawyer raised the issue that the prosecution against him lacks legal justification.

Throughout the day, the Human Rights Defender has been in constant communication with the Police and the Investigative Committee, which ensured proper cooperation with the Defender's office. The public clarifications from the Investigative Committee regarding the arrest of Arush Arushanyan have also been acknowledged.

At the end of the day, the lawyers addressed a written complaint to the Defender concerning the arrest of Arush Arushanyan and the initiated criminal prosecution against him. Currently, the results of the visit to the detention facility and the complaints submitted by the lawyers are being summarized at the Human Rights Defender's office, along with the findings of the Defender's office, based on which necessary measures will be taken within the framework of the Defender's authority.
