Complaint Filed Regarding Incitement to Violence Against Sisian Priest
A complaint has been submitted to the Armenian General Prosecutor's Office regarding incitement to violence against the priest of Sisian. This was stated by lawyer Vahan Hovhannisyan in a conversation with 24news.
"We have applied under Article 226 and part 226.2. Article 226 pertains to actions aimed at inciting religious enmity. When we examine the publications made by the official Arsen Avagyan, we see that they are directly aimed at instigating religious hatred, as they target not only the priest but the Armenian Apostolic Church as a whole," said the lawyer.
He noted that the logic of the march indicates that all actions are coordinated, and all individuals are heading to the church with the same objective.
"These actions aimed at fomenting enmity are accompanied by public calls and threats of violence while using official positions. In other words, we have a violation of point 3 of Article 226.2. We cannot initiate a criminal case under two articles simultaneously, so we have described both articles and asked the prosecuting body to determine which of the articles apply to Arsen Avagyan's actions," the lawyer added.
It is worth mentioning that the priest of Sisian did not shake hands with Prime Minister Pashinyan today and expelled him from the church, after which more than ten of Pashinyan's supporters attempted to attack the Sisian church with the aim of removing the priest. Later, political technologist Karen Kocharyan announced that he had information indicating that there were orders to "remove the Sisian priest by beating him."
