Security Forces in Minsk Again Detain Protesters

Security forces dispersed protesters in the Grushevka micro-district of Minsk, leading to several arrests. This information was reported by the "RIA Novosti" news agency.

The police in the Belarusian capital confirmed the reports of detentions. Earlier, opposition Telegram channels had called on residents of Minsk to participate in an unauthorized mass event on Sunday, dubbed the "People's Tribunal March." In recent weeks, participants in gatherings in Belarus have ceased to assemble in central streets, with actions now taking place in a "yard" format.

In the afternoon, a procession of protesters formed in Grushevka, marching through the yards and chanting opposition slogans while carrying white-red-white symbols. During the march, new people joined them. However, soon law enforcement arrived in the micro-district with several buses. Some protesters fled into courtyards, and arrests were made. The police have not specified the number of detainees.

Mass protests have been ongoing in Belarus for five months now, starting on August 9, immediately after the presidential elections, in which the current leader Alexander Lukashenko was declared the winner by the Central Election Commission, garnering 80.1% of the votes. The opposition does not accept these results and considers Svetlana Tikhanovskaya to be the rightful winner.
