Injured Soldiers to Receive State-of-the-Art Hand Prosthetics, Says Lawmaker

National Assembly member Narek Mkrtchyan from the "My Step" faction writes on his Facebook page: "As I have mentioned, during the wartime, I initiated several healthcare programs, including the visit of foreign doctors, skin grafts made from Icelandic cod, high-quality medications from the American company 'Genadyne', vacuum devices for wound closure, procurement of an off-road vehicle and necessary medical supplies for the RA Ministry of Health's Prof. R. H. Yolian Blood Center, and more. None of this would have been possible without the support of my caring friends, colleagues, our compatriots in the diaspora, as well as dear foreign doctors, businessmen, and politicians. I express my gratitude to everyone once again.

Closing this phase of healthcare initiatives, I would like to draw your attention to a new, very important undertaking concerning the prosthetics for our soldiers who lost arms and legs during combat operations. We will implement the program in collaboration with the 'Homeland Defender Rehabilitation Center,' where a German-Dutch modern laboratory for prosthetics will soon operate with the support of the 'Armenia Foundation Netherlands.'

It is with great pleasure that I announce that, with the assistance of my Icelandic colleagues, I have reached an agreement with the world-renowned Icelandic company 'Ossur' that specializes in prosthetics to acquire state-of-the-art 'i-Limb' hand prosthetics. Alongside Ossur, we have also secured an agreement to purchase modern hand prosthetics from the German-Dutch company 'Ottobock.'

The program will also include an educational component, which entails visits from Icelandic and Dutch specialists for training purposes, retraining Armenian specialists abroad, and so on. We have already confirmed cooperation with one of the best prosthetics specialists from 'Ossur,' Vibey Haidema, who will work with the specialists of the 'Soldier's Home.' If the program is successfully implemented, such prosthetics will be installed for the first time in Armenia. The beneficiaries of this initiative will be our soldiers who lost arms in defense of the homeland, some of whom I have already met, and we will soon begin the preparatory work.
