Video: NSS Presents New Revelations Regarding Vardan Ayvazyan

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, adhering to the principles of equality before the law, respect for human and citizen rights and freedoms, and the protection of public and state security, as well as constitutional order, has revealed attempts to seize power through organized violence by a former official.

In particular, within the framework of a criminal case under investigation in the NSS investigative department, sufficient evidence has been obtained regarding H.Y.'s coordination with V.A., a former member of the Armenian National Assembly from the Republican Party faction and former head of the standing committee on economic affairs, along with other unidentified individuals. H.Y., possessing notably anti-government views, aimed to create favorable conditions for seizing power by sowing distrust through social media channels.

During 2019-2020, H.Y. repeatedly disseminated defamatory and false information regarding the Armenian authorities, including the Prime Minister and his family members, and members of the government, both personally and through supporters in order to undermine their credibility and gain public support for their actions to seize power.

Following the outbreak of war on September 27, 2020, between Azerbaijan and the Republic of Artsakh, and the declaration of martial law in Armenia, the November 10 announcement of a ceasefire and the handover of territories under Artsakh's control to Azerbaijan led to mass unrest incidents in government and parliament buildings. Recognizing the favorable conditions for seizing power, H.Y. coordinated with a group to initiate violence against officials. This culminated in attacks against Ararat Mirzoyan, President of the National Assembly, during which he sustained injuries and lost consciousness.

Afterward, H.Y. conspired to continue violence outside the parliamentary premises, seeking to eliminate all obstacles to their perceived power takeover. Their attempts were thwarted by law enforcement, averting an escalation of violence against governmental figures.

Additionally, H.Y. attempted to obstruct justice while facing charges by meddling in an ongoing criminal case against him while in custody. The NSS has indicated that the investigation has led to over 100 searches, uncovering plans of various political parties to orchestrate further violent disruptions.

Dear compatriots, the NSS reiterates that there are real threats of mass unrest in the country and urges the public to refrain from actions that could destabilize the state or endanger health and lives. It emphasizes citizen responsibility and lawful behavior to avoid provocations that might jeopardize internal and external security.

The NSS encourages everyone to act strictly within the framework of legality and to assist in reporting any criminal acts against state sovereignty and constitutional order to ensure the safety of the Republic of Armenia.
