Investigation Underway to Determine Circumstances of Injuring a Citizen During Protest
On December 9, 2020, a report was received from a citizen at the Central Police Department's Marash Division regarding an incident that occurred at around 14:30 in the area adjacent to Mashtots Avenue in Yerevan, where the driver of a Ford vehicle allegedly drove intentionally towards individuals participating in a protest. As a result, one citizen sustained a fracture in their left leg.
According to the information and public relations department of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia, the identity of the driver of the vehicle has been established, who is a 1985-born resident of Yerevan. Based on a medical report, the injured citizen has been diagnosed with a closed fracture of the lower third of both bones in the left tibia, with dislocation of bone fragments.
A criminal case was initiated on December 11, 2020, at the Central Police Department's Marash Division under Article 112 (Causing Serious Harm to Health Intentionally) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The case was transferred to the investigative division of the Central and Norq-Marash administrative districts of the Investigative Committee on December 16 and is currently under process.
A forensic medical examination has been assigned, and other investigative and procedural actions are underway to ensure a comprehensive, thorough, and objective investigation of the incident.
