Disabled Soldiers from the War to Receive Monthly Support of 300,000 Dram
On September 27, 2020, a report was presented to the Government meeting by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Mesrop Arakelyan regarding a support initiative for soldiers who sustained injuries or disabilities as a result of military actions initiated by Azerbaijan.
According to the Law on Compensation for Damage to the Lives and Health of Servicemen, individuals who have acquired disabilities receive support from the fund. However, considering that this process requires some time due to their health condition, it is proposed that individuals who clearly will receive a disability group soon, based on their health issues, should be able to receive support from the fund for a maximum period of 6 months before obtaining that group status,” noted Arakelyan.
The fund provides support amounting to 100,000 dram each month, while the draft proposes to increase this amount by an additional 200,000 dram with state budget funds for a period of 6 months until a person becomes the main beneficiary of the fund.
The monthly cash payments will cease if the soldier recognized as a beneficiary has been acknowledged as such starting from the first of the month of recognition. The monthly cash payment has been provided for 6 months, starting from the first of the month following the 6th month. Following the decision to provide a monthly cash payment, the prosecuting authority has reported that the soldier sustained injuries or disabilities due to voluntarily leaving the military unit or service location, desertion, voluntarily surrendering, or abandoning the battlefield, among others.
