Court Decides to Suspend Acting Rector of Yerevan State University Gegham Gevorgyan's Powers
The Yerevan City Court of General Jurisdiction has made a decision to suspend the powers of Gegham Gevorgyan, the Acting Rector of Yerevan State University.
In an interview with Armenpress, Karen Hekimyan, the chief specialist of the university's Public Relations Department, stated: "Before becoming the acting rector, Gegham Gevorgyan served as the deputy chairman of the board of Evoca Bank. According to the law on foundations, it is prohibited to combine the rector's position with other paid employment. When Gevorgyan's candidacy was presented for the rector's position, the board of trustees was not informed about this; Gevorgyan did not officially warn that he was engaged in other work, and there has been a manifest violation of the law. On this basis, I appealed to the court with two demands: to annul the decision to appoint him as the acting rector, and second, to declare his powers terminated from the moment of his election. The court satisfied my demands," Hekimyan said.
In a conversation with the media, Gevorgyan mentioned that he has not yet familiarized himself with the court's decision, but added that his prior employment at the time of his election as acting rector was open and publicly known information.
