Vahram Baghdasaryan to Remain at Liberty
Today, the Court of Appeals rejected the prosecutor's appeal requesting the detention of former Republican Party MP Vahram Baghdasaryan. “The court dismissed the prosecutor's appeal, thereby upholding the decision of the first instance court,” Vahram Baghdasaryan's lawyer Ruben Hakobyan stated in a conversation with reporters.
It should be noted that Vahram Baghdasaryan faces charges under Article 35-300, Part 1 (embezzlement of power), Article 35-305 (preparation for murder with the intent to disrupt the activities of a state, political or public figure), and Article 235 (illegal possession of weapons and ammunition) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. The first-instance court had deemed the decision to arrest Vahram Baghdasaryan unlawful on November 16 and rejected the proposal to choose detention as a measure of restraint. The Court of Appeals today decided to uphold that decision; therefore, Baghdasaryan will remain at liberty.
