NATO Rejects Georgia's Request: Details
NATO has a sufficient presence in Georgian territory. The establishment of a full-fledged military base by the alliance is not being considered at this stage. James Appathurai, NATO's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, rejected such a possibility for the country in an interview with Georgian Public Broadcaster.
"NATO is already significantly present in Georgia. There is a joint training and retraining center staffed by military personnel, a military construction school, and, in addition, joint NATO and Georgian military exercises take place every year. NATO has civilian and military offices in Georgia," he stated.
Appathurai emphasized that the alliance only deploys military bases on the territories of member countries, and Georgia, as a partner state, cannot rely on that. However, he noted that the level of NATO's presence in the country is unprecedented compared to other partners.
