Azerbaijan Still Holds a Certain Number of Armenian Prisoners: Artsakh Human Rights Defender

The Human Rights Defender of Artsakh, Artak Beglaryan, writes:

“Our 44 detained compatriots deserve a warm return to their homeland. May no one ever witness what they and their relatives have seen. I am grateful to all the bodies and individuals who have contributed, even a little, to the saving of at least one life. Special thanks to my small team and volunteers for constantly gathering, analyzing, and sharing data about the captives since the hot days of the war with the relevant authorities and lawyers, maintaining contact with their families, and carrying out other related tasks, thanks to which significant lives have been saved. Such organized and coordinated efforts have been made by several teams in Artsakh and the Republic of Armenia, most of whose efforts have been invisible, but some results are already evident today.

Now, it is essential to continue efforts with renewed vigor, as a certain number of Armenian prisoners are still being held in Azerbaijan, and we have transferred undeniable evidence regarding some of them to state and international authorized bodies. Besides them, many missing servicemen and dozens of civilians still remain, some of whom we hope are alive and also need to be brought home, while, if they are not alive, at least their fates need to be clarified. Therefore, there is still significant work to be done in this direction, and I am ready to continue providing maximum support to the main actors of this process, so that all known and still unknown captives reach their homes in the shortest possible time.”
