Amulsar Could Become the Number One Taxpayer, Says Minister of Economy

The operator of the Amulsar mine could become the number one taxpayer, according to Vahan Kerobyan, the newly appointed Minister of Economy of Armenia, who made this statement during the 'Facebook Q&A' program on 'Azatutyun' yesterday. He discussed plans for ensuring high economic growth for Armenia in the future.

During the show, a user asked the minister about his opinion on the operation of the Amulsar mine. Kerobyan responded that he has not seen any reports regarding the environmental damages caused by the operation of the Amulsar mine. 'I know the damages on one hand and the benefits on the other,' he stated.

Discussing mining operations in Armenia in general and citing Sotk as an example, the minister remarked, 'We saw what kind of uproar was raised when we lost the fourth taxpayer of the Republic of Armenia, yet we are simply not allowing the potential first taxpayer to open up. We tell the first taxpayer not to open, but we suffer heavily from losing the fourth taxpayer.'
