Pashinyan Clarifies Under What Circumstances He Would Resign
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, stated that he would resign only based on credible results of popular expression. Until such expression occurs, he will continue to fulfill his duties as Prime Minister. Pashinyan made these remarks during a live broadcast on his Facebook page.
“These days, besides border security, we are facing issues related to information security. Certain circles have launched a real process of informational terrorism against Armenia and the Armenian people,” said Pashinyan.
He pointed out that various false and half-false information is being disseminated, with the aim of exacerbating feelings of anxiety and instilling panic among the public.
Pashinyan provided examples: “Constant rumors are circulating about my resignation. Yet, I have clearly stated that I can only resign from the status given to me by the people based on credible results of popular expression. Until such expression occurs, I will continue to fulfill my duties as Prime Minister and I am obliged to do so honestly and candidly,” he emphasized.
He highlighted that the number one issue today is the stabilization of the security environment around Armenia, and the government will consistently pursue this path.
Addressing the misinformation concerning Artsakh and borders, Pashinyan noted: “I have set a task to ensure that official information responds more intensely and comprehensively to the public’s concerns and covers ongoing processes more quickly. In this regard, I want to emphasize that there are situations that are still developing, and the official information regarding them may sometimes be delayed for one simple reason: events are evolving, and as long as there is no recorded situation of the events, the officially reported information could negatively impact the situation.”
He underscored the importance of the public being able to distinguish between accurate information and false information.
