Armed Robbery by Two Residents of Gyumri, Assisted by the Elderly Woman's Neighbors

On November 21, 2020, at 23:40, a resident of Gyumri reported to the Mushe division of the police that two masked individuals entered an apartment, took advantage of the open door, pulled the 73-year-old mother down to the ground, bound her with duct tape, and threatened two neighbors present in the apartment with a knife, stealing money before fleeing the scene.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 175, Part 2, Points 1, 3, and 4 of the RA Criminal Code (Robbery). During the preliminary investigation, a series of investigative actions and operational-search measures were carried out, clarifying several circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of the alleged offenders and those who assisted them.

It was determined that the robbery was committed by 37 and 26-year-old residents of Gyumri, with assistance from the aforementioned elderly woman’s neighbors. As a result of the operations, the 26-year-old suspect was located. Based on sufficient evidence obtained, he has been charged under Article 175, Part 2, Points 1, 3, and 4 of the RA Criminal Code (Robbery), and the chosen measure of restraint has been detention.

The neighbors have also been charged under Article 38-175, Part 2, Points 1, 3, and 4 of the RA Criminal Code (Assistance to Robbery). They provided self-incriminating testimonies regarding the circumstances of the incident. For them, the measure of restraint chosen is a signed pledge not to leave.

Measures are being taken to locate the alleged fourth suspect, a 37-year-old man, and present him to the prosecuting authority. The investigation is ongoing.
