Members of the European Parliament Demand Merkel Halt Sale of German Submarines to Turkey

Members of the European Parliament from Germany and Greece have sent a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressing concerns regarding Turkey's threats and calling for the immediate cessation of the sale of German-made submarines to that country, reports Ermenihaber.am.

The letter, published on Twitter with the signatures of the MPs, states that Turkey’s seismic research activities in the Eastern Mediterranean violate the sovereign rights of Greece and Cyprus, and are also contrary to international law.

“We are extremely concerned about Turkey's military threats against EU member states in the Eastern Mediterranean and fear that Turkey may use submarines produced in Germany during a potential conflict,” the letter states.

The lawmakers demanded an immediate halt to the export of spare parts for submarines produced by the major German company Thyssen Krupp, which are being assembled in Turkey.

It should be noted that the issue of imposing sanctions on Turkey will be on the agenda of the EU summit scheduled for December 10.
