OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to Visit Armenia and Azerbaijan

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group will be in Baku and Yerevan this weekend to hold negotiations aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. This was reported by the Public Radio of Armenia.

The information was disclosed today by Philip Reeker, the senior advisor to the U.S. Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs, during a briefing for members of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe in Congress.

According to Reeker, Washington continues to urge both Azerbaijan and Armenia to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. He mentioned that U.S. co-chair Andrew Schofer is currently in Geneva conducting meetings related to the Georgian issue within the Geneva process.

“This weekend, he will travel to the two capitals, both Baku and Yerevan, to understand where we can move forward regarding the diplomatic resolution of this conflict,” said Reeker. He added that the Minsk Group format has been successful in itself, as it maintained a significant period of peace over 30 years, “even if fragile.” Reeker emphasized that the U.S. insists on developing a “sustainable solution” at the negotiating table.
