Availability of Shelters Will Become Mandatory
The Urban Development Committee of Armenia has initiated the process of developing norms for shelters, making their existence mandatory during the construction and reconstruction of new buildings. In an interview with Armenpress, Ruzanna Adamyan, the head of the Department of Construction and Scientific-Technical Norming of the committee, informed that this process started in June of the current year.
Adamyan stated, "Mandatory requirements are set especially for newly constructed buildings, where the architectural and design assignment cannot be approved without a shelter. This means if you want to build a building, you must plan conditions in your basement or semi-basement areas that can quickly be converted into shelters."
The designing organization will develop norms for the location of shelters in reconstructed and newly constructed buildings and structures, addressing issues related to refurbishment, equipment, furnishings, wall thickness, signaling, and fire safety systems, among others.
There are buildings that have reinforcement issues, which implies significant technical interventions. Thus, the norm for shelters will also apply within the framework of reinforcing already constructed buildings.
