Arthur Vanetsyan Will Not Be Arrested: Court Rejects Prosecutor's Appeal
The Court of Appeals, presided over by judge Rubik Mkrtchyan, today rejected the prosecutor's appeal against the decision to deny the arrest of Arthur Vanetsyan, the leader of the "Fatherland" party, as a measure of restraint.
It is noteworthy that earlier, judge Marine Melkonyan of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction had rejected the petition from the prosecuting authority to select arrest as a measure of restraint for Vanetsyan.
Vanetsyan has been charged under Article 35-300, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, for usurpation of power, as well as Article 35-305, which relates to the preparation of murder with the intent to terminate the activities of a state, political, or public official, and Article 235 concerning the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.
