Makunts Requested a 20-Minute Break in the National Assembly, Noting That Some MPs Are Late
A fifth of the MPs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia have formally approached the Assembly, proposing to hold an urgent discussion on the return of Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians in a closed session. Lena Nazaryan announced this.
Leader of the 'My Step' faction Lilith Makunts stated that the topic is very sensitive, and in order to not jeopardize their safety and the return process, the faction wants the discussion to be closed.
On the other hand, the leader of the 'Bright Armenia' faction Edmon Marukyan announced that the initiative for the discussion came from them, and there was also a proposal at the end for a message to be accepted. "Yesterday, members of the 'My Step' coalition attempted to thwart today’s discussion of the message in the session of the National Assembly council, where it became clear that they could not obstruct it, and the issue had to be discussed mandatory. They wanted to sabotage it because they did not want us to have speeches. When they realized they could not obstruct it, they decided to close the discussion," Marukyan noted.
He emphasized that the discussion should be open and that the MPs would speak in a way that would not put the prisoners of war at risk. The parties could not reach a consensus. As a result, Lilith Makunts requested a 20-minute break, stating that some of their MPs were somewhat late.
