Hayk Marutyan Announces What Each Color of Trash Can Is For

Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan announced on his Facebook page that it is time to separate household waste.

Ajachpan and Davtashen are the first administrative districts where we will start installing specialized recycling trash cans. The municipal enterprise "Greening and Environmental Protection" will set up three different colored trash cans at 16 designated points.

These will allow our residents to gradually adopt the culture of waste separation, storing it at home and disposing of it in the containers located near their residences.

Since 2019, we have pursued several key objectives with this planned process, ranging from environmental goals to achieving economic results. So, if you see new trash cans installed near your building, know that:

• The yellow one is for paper and cardboard. It is highly desirable to fold cardboard boxes before disposing of them.
• The blue one is for plastic. These containers are designated for disposing of all waste made from plastic, including polyethylene bags, bottles, cups, and more.
• The small gray/black trash cans are for glass. Here, we collect glass waste, including not only bottles and other dishes but also, for example, broken window glass, and so on.
