Vahram Poghosyan Misinterpreted
The expansion of the Russian peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh is in line with the security interests of the region. This was stated to RIA Novosti by Vahram Poghosyan, the press secretary of the President of Artsakh.
“The Russian peacekeeping contingent is carrying out a significant mission in terms of ensuring peace and stability in Artsakh, and any future expansion of that personnel is solely in the interest of securing the region,” said Poghosyan. He emphasized that the authorities in Nagorno-Karabakh have a very clear position on this issue.
“The physical security of the people of Artsakh and the prospects for development are directly linked to the presence of Russian peacekeepers. We consider the presence of peacekeeping forces in Artsakh from a long-term perspective,” Poghosyan noted.
Poghosyan stressed that an earlier statement attributed to him regarding the assertion that “Artsakh does not yet see the need for an expansion of the Russian peacekeeping mission in the region” was a result of misinterpretation.
