Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazyan Heads to Moscow with a Rich Agenda

On December 7, during the meeting and negotiations between Armenian Foreign Minister Ara Aivazyan and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the two sides are expected to discuss a comprehensive range of issues surrounding bilateral cooperation in the frameworks of the EAEU, CSTO, and CIS, as well as alignment of positions on various international platforms such as the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe, and others.

A substantial exchange of views on international and regional topics will take place. The implementation of the program for consultations between the foreign ministries of Russia and Armenia for the years 2020-2021 will also be on the agenda.

One of the key topics of the meeting will be the practical implementation of the November 9 statement between the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister of Armenia. The process of providing humanitarian assistance, restoring infrastructure, and unblocking transport corridors will be discussed in the context of agreements reached after the visits of the interagency delegation of Russia to Yerevan and Baku on November 21 of this year.

The parties will also address matters related to the establishment of an inter-agency center for humanitarian response, as stipulated by Russian President Putin's decree on November 13, which involves several dozen Russian ministries, agencies, and departments.

This visit will serve as a logical continuation of the rich political dialogue between Russia and Armenia, aimed at further developing close cooperation between the two countries in political, trade-economic, humanitarian, and other fields, taking into account the new realities that have emerged in the region following the end of military operations in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone.

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted, “An effective mechanism for foreign policy coordination has been established between Moscow and Yerevan regarding key issues on the global and regional agenda within universal and specialized international organizations, such as the UN, OSCE, CSTO, and other multilateral formats. The positive dynamics in the development of Russian-Armenian allied cooperation is ensured by high-level intense dialogue. Active inter-agency communications continue, providing opportunities to address urgent cooperation issues on mutually beneficial grounds. Inter-parliamentary cooperation is also being realized.”
