What to Expect Next Week: Four Elections and a Heated Session

On December 8, the next session of the National Assembly will begin. One day prior, on December 7, a meeting of the National Assembly Council will take place, during which the agenda for the session will be approved. According to the "Zhoghovurd" newspaper, there will be 25 items on the agenda, 10 of which are mandatory for discussion.

Furthermore, the parliament will have three votes next week. First, the National Assembly members will elect the President of the Supreme Court. The only candidate is Lilit Tadevosyan, who is currently the head of the criminal chamber of the Supreme Court. The nomination will be presented in parliament by Ruben Vardazaryan, the President of the Supreme Judicial Council. The position of Supreme Court President has been vacant since Yervand Khundkaryan was elected as a member of the Constitutional Court. It should be noted that he also participated in a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which has caused discontent among other colleagues.

Additionally, there have been discussions in the judiciary suggesting that he attended the meeting with the Prime Minister to secure his election as the court's president. Following this election, there is also a vacancy for a judge position since Khundkaryan was also a judge. Thus, the candidates for the vacant position of judge in the civil and administrative chambers of the Supreme Court have been nominated: Samvel Grigoryan, Armen Haikyan, and Arsen Mkrtchyan.
