‘We sleep with fear and anxiety in our hearts’: Unrest in Kut village

In Kut village of Gegharkunik Province, there has been a state of unrest for about five days, with reports of Azerbaijani presence, as reported by aysor.am.

“For five days, the dogs on the mountain have been restless, barking constantly. This morning, around 5:00 to 5:30 AM, I was sleeping when my mother called out to me, saying, ‘Come and see, there are people,’” a resident of Kut, who requested anonymity, told Aysor.am. “I looked out the window and saw five people just behind our house, which is right at the foot of the hill. They climbed over the hill and went towards the Karvachar direction; currently, the Turkish forces are about 5 to 6 kilometers away from our home.”

The resident expressed that the village has been left to fend for itself and they have reached out for help, hoping to convey their concerns to the Prime Minister. “We sleep with fear and anxiety in our hearts; we don’t know what could happen at any moment. We have said that at least they should provide us with weapons so that we can defend our village with the villagers,” he stated.

He noted uncertainty about whether the group came from the Sotk mining area or Karvachar. “Their graves are just 150-200 meters from our house; they even came to their graves and then left again. The Turkish colonel went to the grave and then went back. I don’t know how he got to his father’s and mother’s graves,” he elaborated.

He described seeing the five-person group from his window and noted he opened the door without turning on the light to follow their movements as they looked around and climbed over the mountain towards the Karvachar direction. “Now I don’t know if they went to Karvachar or the Sotk gold mine,” said the Kut resident.
