Russian Soldiers Do Everything to Maintain Peace in the Region, Says Sergey Shoigu
The deployment of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh has allowed for the stabilization of the situation in the region. According to Armenpress, this was stated by the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergey Shoigu, during a meeting with senior officers.
"The conditions of the trilateral statement signed on the cessation of hostilities are being observed. With the support of peacekeepers, the exchange of the bodies of the deceased between Armenia and Azerbaijan continues. Peacekeepers have facilitated the return of more than 30,000 refugees. They are clearing the area and roads of explosive objects, having cleaned up 50 hectares of land and more than 17.5 km of roads. More than 1,000 explosive objects have been neutralized. The Lachin corridor and a 28 km section of the main road stretching to Stepanakert have been cleared of mines. As a result, civilian vehicle traffic has been restored. Peacekeepers have escorted 3,500 vehicles.
Additionally, the deployment of a medical detachment from the Eastern Military District, equipped with modern equipment, has been completed. These specialists have already started providing medical assistance to the personnel and the local population. Collaboration has been established with the leadership of Nagorno-Karabakh, representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees," Shoigu noted.
