Artificial Intelligence Development Contains Certain Risks, Says Vladimir Putin
“Artificial intelligence will never replace humans. Yes, artificial intelligence and machines will significantly control humans, just like many other modern technical means, but in the end, people must control these machines,” said Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that if used correctly, this enormous resource will become a loyal assistant, opening new horizons for the implementation of numerous tasks.
He believes that artificial intelligence is the basis for a new impetus for the development of all humanity, according to TASS agency.
“Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly the basis for yet another advancement in the development of all humanity,” he stated during the Artificial Intelligence Journey (AI Journey) international online conference.
The Russian president also noted that so-called corridor technologies are “penetrating and will continue to penetrate all areas of life,” including production, social life, science, and even culture.
Commenting on the question of the probability of “machines rebelling,” the president emphasized that people will manage these machines. At the same time, Putin noted that the development of artificial intelligence does indeed carry certain risks, but it depends on humans “how carefully they will manage these opportunities.”
“Just as the use of atomic energy and other achievements depends on humans,” the president explained, adding that these dangers need to be taken into account and neutralized in advance. He also reminded that the internet, which plays a significant role in people’s lives, can contain dangers as well, and therefore, all the rules that have been applied and are being applied today should also be extended to it. The same applies to artificial intelligence, according to the Russian leader.
He also expressed confidence that artificial intelligence cannot replace humans but can become a loyal assistant.
