Ararat Mirzoyan: a Backup Candidate

Although the President of the National Assembly, Ararat Mirzoyan, has stated that he will remain by Prime Minister Pashinyan's side until the end after his recovery, he is simultaneously trying to consolidate support around him.

Over the past week, he has met with the Catholicos, the Human Rights Defender, and the President of the Constitutional Court. Just yesterday, he invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs to the National Assembly and visited Yerevan's Yerablur cemetery in the morning. In the evening, he welcomed representatives from academic and university circles.

There are suggestions that even some of his fellow MPs have traveled to the USA for political meetings, although we could not confirm whether they have indeed gone or if it is merely an intention.

It is not excluded that at the peak of rising tensions, Pashinyan may decide to consider Mirzoyan as an alternative by appointing him as Prime Minister.

Despite this, Pashinyan does not want to part with the Prime Minister's seat for even an hour and trusts no one, including Mirzoyan,” writes the “Haykakan Zhamanak” newspaper.
