Where will the Russian-Turkish monitoring center be located in Karabakh?
This week, it was revealed that Russia and Turkey have signed an agreement to establish a joint center to monitor the ceasefire in Karabakh, but the details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
BBC has tried to find out where this center will be located. Two Azerbaijani officials told the BBC that during negotiations with Moscow, the location of the center was mainly discussed with two options: Ganja or Barda. However, the Turkish side objected to the location in Ganja, as that city is too far from the peacekeepers' control zone.
Sources in the Russian and Turkish military-diplomatic circles clarified that both sides have agreed not to disclose the exact location of the center yet; therefore, even under conditions of anonymity, they declined to discuss the specific site with journalists, although they did provide a few hints.
Thus, a source from Turkey's intelligence service, who has been directly following the negotiations, informed the BBC that it will be located 15 kilometers away from the area of Nagorno-Karabakh that is under the control of Russian peacekeepers. Barda city is approximately at that distance.
