The Number of Permanent Residents in Armenia Decreased by 0.2% Compared to Last Year

The number of permanent residents in Armenia as of January 1 of this year has reached 2,959.7 thousand people, according to the Statistical Committee of the Republic of Armenia. This figure shows a decrease of 5.6 thousand people or 0.2% compared to the beginning of 2019, when the population stood at 2,965.3 thousand. On January 1, 2018, the population was recorded at 2,972.7 thousand.

As of the beginning of 2020, the composition of Armenia's permanent residents included 63.9% urban and 36.1% rural populations. Men constituted 47.2% of the permanent population, while women made up 52.8%. The average age of the population at the beginning of 2020 was 36.9 years, with men averaging 34.8 years and women 38.8 years.

Additionally, as of the beginning of 2020, 63.8% of the permanent population fell within the working-age group (16-62 years), while 21.5% were below working age (0-15 years) and 14.7% were above working age (63 years and older).
