Robert Kocharian: The Armenian Government Did Everything to Make War Inevitable
Second President of Armenia and First President of Artsakh, Robert Kocharian, stated in an interview with 5th Channel that he chose to remain silent for a period as he believed it was necessary for the public to fully understand the truth about the war before he made his statements.
“Unfortunately, it took thousands of losses and the loss of one-third of the homeland for the public to realize this bitter truth. And the bitter truth is that the people's government brought the people to their knees,” he noted.
When asked if it was possible to avoid the war, Kocharian responded, “Undoubtedly. I am convinced that the Armenian authority did everything to make the war inevitable. Everything was done. We can simply go through a few points; I will not say anything new, because I have been following the media for the last month, and almost everything has been said. It can be summarized to form a complete picture.”
“Firstly, the negotiation process was deliberately led into a deadlock. Through contradictory statements, a situation was created where even the co-chairs did not understand what Armenia wanted. And an impression was formed that the Armenian side was simply inventing tricks to lead the negotiation process into a deadlock,” Kocharian added. He emphasized that the war began at the moment when no one suspected that the negotiation process was failing due to the actions of the Armenian side.
