As of December 4, 260 Bodies of Fallen Soldiers Identified, Ministry of Health
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia posted on its Facebook page: "In recent days, questions have frequently arisen regarding DNA identification studies, particularly concerning what they are and what capabilities Armenia has in this field.
It is worth noting that the genetic analyzer (sequencer) Applied Biosystem 3500, a genetic analysis system that meets international standards, was acquired by the Ministry of Health in December 2018 through the joint efforts and funding of the Ministry of Health and several agencies. It has been transferred to the Forensic Medical Practical Center of the Ministry of Health, which conducts these studies.
The device examines short tandem repeat regions characteristic of the human genome, allowing for forensic genetic identification studies through the establishment of kinship ties and produces data in accordance with international standards. The equipment is unique, and considering the wartime situation from September 27 to November 9, it operates 24/7.
As of December 4, a total of 1,613 biological samples have undergone forensic genetic examination, resulting in the identification of 260 bodies of fallen soldiers. Currently, the Ministry of Health is negotiating with manufacturers to acquire and install another flow line for forensic genetic identification studies."
