36-Year-Old Man Accused of Sexual Assault Attempts Escape from Custody
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has revealed details regarding a case involving a 36-year-old man accused of committing sexual acts against a 29-year-old woman and attempting to escape from custody at the investigative department's administrative building.
Based on comprehensive investigations conducted into the criminal case, it was established that on July 26, 2020, at approximately 11:15 AM, the 36-year-old man used violence against the will of the 29-year-old woman, committing sexual acts in a secluded area near the town of Vanadzor.
Furthermore, on July 28, 2020, at around 8:40 PM, while being transferred to a detention facility, the suspect attempted to escape from the administrative building of the investigative department. However, due to circumstances beyond his control, he was unable to complete his escape plan.
Based on sufficient evidence gathered, he has been charged under Article 139 (sexual acts of a violent nature) and Article 34-355 (attempted escape by a detained individual) of the RA Criminal Code. A measure of restraint, specifically detention, has been applied to him.
The preliminary investigation has been completed, and the criminal case has been forwarded to the court with a bill of indictment.
