UN Assessment Mission Preparing to Arrive in Nagorno-Karabakh, Zakharova
The UN comprehensive mission is preparing to head to Nagorno-Karabakh to assess the humanitarian situation in the region.
According to reports from Armenpress, citing TASS, this was announced by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. "The International Committee of the Red Cross is operating in the region, and the United Nations comprehensive assessment mission is preparing to depart [for Nagorno-Karabakh]," she stated.
Zakharova noted that the Russian side is in "close contact" with the relevant Armenian and Azerbaijani authorities regarding the resolution of humanitarian issues, and is also working with interested international organizations. The inter-agency humanitarian response center, she continued, is increasing support for refugees returning to their former places of residence in Nagorno-Karabakh. "The number of returnees since November 14 is approaching 30,000. Daily, 1,000 to 2,000 people are moving. Humanitarian cargo delivery operations have begun," emphasized the Russian Foreign Ministry's official representative.
"Russian peacekeepers continue to monitor the situation around the clock and to ensure adherence to the ceasefire regime. They are creating conditions for the return of refugees, ensuring the safe passage of civilian vehicles, food, various goods, and the safety of repair brigades tasked with the restoration of infrastructure facilities, as well as conducting demining operations," Zakharova added.
Additionally, the diplomat stated that the search for the bodies of missing servicemen and the deceased is under the control of the Russian peacekeeping mission. She noted that this topic is "very sensitive in Armenian and Azerbaijani societies." "Our peacekeepers carry out the search using modern technical means," she added.
