David Babayan: Establishing a Russian Military Base in Nagorno-Karabakh Would Enhance Long-Term Security and Stability
Establishing a Russian military base in Nagorno-Karabakh would contribute to strengthening security and stability in the region in the long term. This was stated by David Babayan, the advisor on foreign policy issues to the President of Artsakh, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“As an expert, citizen, and politician of this country, I believe that having a Russian military base here would be very beneficial. Just consider: Russia has significant geopolitical power, and what if Turkey urges Azerbaijan to aggression? What if the Soviets step outside of Turkey's influence and decide to take action here? In that case, they might deliberately try to damage Russia's reputation, not to mention putting us in a very adverse situation from a security perspective. In any case, the deployment of a Russian military base in Nagorno-Karabakh would significantly strengthen security and stability here in the long term,” Babayan stated.
