Act Quickly While Azerbaijanis Have Not Arrived to Establish Positions: Taguhi Tovmasyan

Member of Parliament Taguhi Tovmasyan wrote on her Facebook page: “Act quickly while it is not too late. One of the urgent issues that requires discussion following the handover of Karvachar relates to the fate of the Greater and Lesser Al lakes located on the southern slopes of my native Vardenis, northwest of the Syunik plateau.

Today, I spoke again with senior military officials who assured me that the Greater and Lesser Al lakes are currently under our control because all maps prior to 1930 established that they were ours. Our armed forces are now maintaining them under our control with appropriate positioning.

Of course, military leadership is not currently aware of what political decision will be made regarding this issue in the near future. I am also unaware of who is currently negotiating and exactly what is being discussed, but it would be beneficial for the negotiators to understand these maps, and thus, the truth behind them.

I am ready to provide valuable information (if there is indeed a need), so that we can prove that the heights of the Greater and Lesser Al lakes have been within our country’s borders. While it is not too late, and while Azerbaijanis have not arrived to establish positions, we must act quickly since later it may be too late: Azerbaijanis, repeating the Sotk incident, may come and try to establish themselves.

PS: Attached below are a 1927 (NEW ARMENIA AND ITS NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES) Armenian-language map and a Turkish-language map, which show in blue that the Al lakes are located within our territory, and the two parties of the trilateral agreement are obliged to ensure a complete and fair demarcation of the borders.”
