More than 900 Syrian militants have returned to Syria from Nagorno-Karabakh: #SOHR
More than 900 pro-Turkish Syrian militants have returned to Syria following the conclusion of military operations in Nagorno-Karabakh, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported on Wednesday.
Turkey is accused of sending hundreds of Syrian mercenaries to the conflict zone to fight alongside Azerbaijani forces, although Ankara denies the allegations. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a total of over 2,580 Syrians have been sent to Baku, with 293 reported fatalities.
“More than 900 militants from pro-Turkish groups have returned to Syria through several routes,” said SOHR Director Rami Abdel Rahman.
The remaining militants are expected to return home in the coming days.
According to Abdel Rahman, the militants have returned to areas in Syria controlled by pro-Turkish rebels, including Afrin, Jarabulus, and al-Bab.
