Broadcasting Regulatory Commission Concerned About Police Actions Towards 'Yerkir Media' Crew
The Broadcasting and Media Regulatory Commission, as the authorized body regulating the activities of broadcasting media, expresses its concern regarding the actions taken by the police against the crew of 'Yerkir Media' television company yesterday. This was announced in a statement released by the commission.
The statement also notes: 'The commission would like to remind the police and other law enforcement bodies once again that every journalist has the right to be present at public gatherings organized or spontaneous, regardless of the nature of the actions taking place. No authority from any state body requires prior notification or accreditation for the coverage of events.'
Interfering with journalists' professional activities violates the right of Armenian citizens to receive timely and diverse information about ongoing processes in the country. The commission calls on the police to take steps to prevent such incidents, while urging broadcasting organizations to inform the commission about any forceful actions taken against broadcasters by law enforcement agencies.
