Russian Diplomats Injured in Kabul Car Explosion
Russian diplomats have been injured in a car explosion caused by an improvised explosive device in the Afghan capital, Kabul. According to the official website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident occurred on December 1, near the road adjacent to the Russian embassy compound.
“The explosion of an improvised explosive device happened while the vehicle of the Russian diplomatic mission was in motion. The Russian diplomats inside the vehicle suffered minor concussions. Preliminary assessments suggest that the target of the attack may have been a pickup truck of Afghan national security forces traveling in front of the diplomatic vehicle, but the possibility of a terrorist attack aimed at Russian citizens cannot be ruled out,” the statement said.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has demanded a thorough investigation of the incident by the Afghan side and urged measures to ensure the safety of the personnel of the Russian establishment.
“The Russian embassy in Kabul is implementing additional measures aimed at increasing the security level of the diplomatic mission's staff and facilities,” the Russian Foreign Ministry noted.
