Narek Sargsyan Accepts the Charges Against Him
The nephew of Armenia's third president Serzh Sargsyan, Narek Sargsyan, accepts the charges brought against him. According to ArmNews, Prosecutor Aram Aramyan presented the indictment in the criminal case.
According to the indictment, Narek Alexandrovich Sargsyan is charged with illegally acquiring and storing a number of firearms and military ammunition, specifically 168 rounds of various calibers, in apartment 14 of building 11 on Tumanyan Street in Yerevan. He allegedly asked Artem Hayrapetyan Petrosyan, who was unaware of Narek Sargsyan’s criminal intentions, to move and store these items in a previously rented apartment located at 68 of building 82-84 on Arami Street in Yerevan. These items were discovered by the employees of the National Security Service of Armenia during the transport process on June 25, 2018.
During the same period, Narek Sargsyan is also accused of illegally obtaining and storing 0.1 grams of a large quantity of narcotics in the same apartment, again asking Artem Hayrapetyan Petrosyan to transport and store the drugs in the aforementioned rented apartment without any knowledge of the criminal activity involved. The drugs were also discovered by the National Security Service employees during a subsequent search.
Additionally, Narek Sargsyan is alleged to have illegally obtained and stored cocaine, weighing 0.031 grams, in a non-flammable cupboard in his office at 67/1 Artashat Highway, wrapped in a brown paper package resembling leather. These items were also discovered by the employees of the National Security Service during a search conducted on July 4, 2018.
Moreover, he is accused of organizing and leading a group of individuals to commit a kidnapping involving threats of violence and the use of objects as weapons for profit.
Narek Sargsyan has submitted a motion for expedited proceedings in his case. Judge Vahe Misakyan presented the peculiarities of the expedited procedure. Prosecutor Aramyan remarked that a decision on the motion should be postponed in order to hear the victim's perspective. The court has postponed the decision on the motion, as the victim was absent from the court session. The next court session is scheduled for December 24 at 14:00.
