I Could Not and Cannot Reconcile with These Realities: Syunik Governor on His Resignation

Syunik Governor Hunan Poghosyan, who has submitted his resignation, has released a statement in which he says: "As much as the arguments, clarifications, and justifications may seem understandable, logical, and convincing, I could not and cannot reconcile with these realities. On November 30, 2020, I submitted a request to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia to be relieved of my duties as the Governor of SYUNIK in accordance with my application. This was the unequivocal and irrevocable decision I mentioned on November 16, 2020.

I express my gratitude to SYUNIK and its people, my colleagues, the authorities I have worked with, especially to the staff of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures, led by Suren Papikyan. Special thanks go to the staff of the governor's office, the heads of the consolidated communities in the region: Gevorg Parysyan of Kapan, Arush Arushanyan of Goris, as well as the deputy mayors of Goris, Menua Hovsepyan and Irina Yolyan, Arthur Sargsyan of Sisian, Mkhitar Zakaryan of Meghri, Manvel Paramazyan of Kajaran, Nerses Shadunts of Tegh, Murad Simonyan of Tatev, Ashot Agajanyan of Gorayk, and all administrative heads of communities, as well as their teams, who served as a personal example in defending the borders of the HOMELAND and providing support for ARTSAKH.

I thank and I am proud that we have worked together. I also thank our compatriots living abroad, schoolchildren, the elderly, intellectuals, producers, and individual entrepreneurs, the industrial giants of the region, everyone—during the entire duration of the war—who ensured support every day and hour of this brutal ordeal and alleviated the burdens of ARTSAKH.

I thank our partners in ARTSAKH. I thank the soldiers of the HOMELAND—from private to general. I bow before the memory of OUR MARTYRED HEROES. GLORY TO OUR HEROES AND THEIR PARENTS. MAY GOD GUARD US ALL.

P.S. I will continue to serve until the government’s appropriate decision. In recent days, thanks to our joint efforts, we currently have a more favorable and secure border in Syunik; I ask everyone to further strengthen and protect it.
