Putin Highlights the Importance of Harmonizing Laws within CSTO to Combat International Terrorism

Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the importance of harmonizing laws within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to effectively combat international terrorism and extremism, as well as drug trafficking. This was reported by the Kremlin's official website, according to TASS.

"In the face of growing common challenges such as international terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, and illegal migration, we attach great importance to ensuring the timely ratification of documents within the CSTO framework and the work of the Parliamentary Assembly in aligning national legislation in the security sector," said President Putin in a message to participants of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly session.

He also noted that an important direction of inter-parliamentary cooperation is the development of common approaches against threats related to interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. Naturally, coordinating efforts aimed at combating the coronavirus pandemic is also of particular relevance today.

This year, he identified the strengthening of security in CSTO member states and the development of collective defense capabilities with partners as key priorities during Russia's presidency in the CSTO.
