Meeting of the Defense Industry Committee Held Today at the Government

Under the leadership of Nikol Pashinyan, a meeting of the Defense Industry Committee was held today at the government. This was reported by the Government.

In his opening remarks, Pashinyan addressed the issue of the establishment of the defense industrial complex. “Since the adoption of the law on the ‘Defense Industrial Complex’ in Armenia in 2015, defense industry has been one of the most discussed topics in our country. However, we can note that the results we have today are not satisfactory, because, unfortunately, we have not succeeded in forming a system that allows us to say that the defense industrial complex has been established in the Republic of Armenia,” he stated. “Also, due to the new circumstances, we probably need to summarize the achievements of the previous period, the shortcomings, and understand what realistic programs we can have in the field of defense industry, so that, on one hand, this complex can become a driving force for our country's economy and industry, and on the other hand, can meet our security needs in accordance with modern challenges.”

The Minister of High-Tech Industry, Hakob Arshakyan, presented a report on the works carried out by the defense industrial complex and its current status.

Subsequently, discussions took place regarding the directions for development and further actions in the context of the realities formed after the war. Issues were raised concerning the technological development of the defense industrial complex, the staffing with relevant specialists, the encouragement of technological education, and the creation of an effective connection between science, economy, and defense industry.

Priority was given to reforms in the education system and work towards meeting the demand for specialists necessary for the defense industrial complex. A list of special scientific research and experimental design works for 2020-2021 was presented.
