Meeting Between Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Head of ICRC Delegation in Armenia

The Minister of Defense of Armenia, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, met with Claire Maitro, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Armenia, to discuss the completion of her mission, as well as the newly appointed head, Thierry Riboy.

During the meeting, the Minister highlighted the significant importance that the Armenian side places on the support rendered by the Russian peacekeeping forces and the ICRC delegation in the recovery of the bodies of servicemen who perished during military operations along the Armenia-Azerbaijan contact line due to the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression starting September 27 of this year. The Armenian side also appreciates the support in the search for missing and injured persons, as well as the clarification and future exchange processes regarding prisoners of war and civilians.

It was reiterated the importance of searching for unknown servicemen and civilians, as well as the process of recovering and exchanging the bodies of the fallen servicemen in the areas of military operations in the southern and southeastern segments of the Armenia-Azerbaijan front, facilitated by the Russian peacekeeping forces and the ICRC delegation.

The head of the ICRC office in Yerevan congratulated V. Harutyunyan on assuming the role of Minister of Defense and assured that the delegation will continue its mediating mission concerning the organization of the aforementioned processes within the framework of its authority.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan highly appreciated the activities of Ms. Maitro during her tenure and wished the newly appointed head Thierry Riboy fruitful work in the upcoming mission.
