The presidency of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia has issued a statement regarding the situation created as a result of the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression against Artsakh and Armenia.
“In connection with the grave situation created in the Republic of Armenia and Artsakh as a result of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the Republic of Artsakh on September 27, 2020, the presidency of the National Academy of Sciences declares:
- We evaluate the statement signed on November 9 between Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia as a humiliating document for the Armenian people, according to which the Republic of Artsakh suffers significant territorial losses and faces serious restrictions on its sovereignty, creating a complex and heavy moral-psychological atmosphere in the Armenian states and the Diaspora.
- In the current situation, we regard the Russian Federation's peacekeepers as an exclusive guarantee for the salvation of the Armenian population of Artsakh from the genocidal and deportation policy of Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as for the establishment of stability in the region.
- We highly appreciate the decisive role of the Armenian armed forces in the preservation of the territory under the control of the Artsakh authorities. We call for all possible measures to exclude the demoralization of the army and to support its replenishment, strengthening, and modernization.
- We strongly condemn the long-standing indifferent attitude of the authorities of the Republic towards science, which has made it impossible to apply modern scientific and technical achievements in the country’s defense system.
- We consider it unacceptable to sow hostility, vengeance, distrust, and hatred within society and call for decisive efforts to create an atmosphere of solidarity and unity.
- In the created situation, we deem the further functioning of the Government of Armenia ineffective and demand the resignation of the government headed by the Prime Minister of the Republic.”
