Red Cross Plans to Send Additional 400-500 Employees to Nagorno-Karabakh

The President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Peter Maurer, has announced that the ICRC plans to send an additional 400-500 employees to Nagorno-Karabakh.

In an interview with RBC, Maurer stated that over the last six weeks, the committee has fundamentally changed the nature of its humanitarian mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. He emphasized that with the outbreak of the conflict, the ICRC realized that it 'needed to do more.'

He noted that before the war, the budget for the ICRC mission in the region was $10.96 million, while that figure will exceed $49.31 million in 2021. 'In other words, we will increase our presence fourfold. We had quite a small number of staff there. We now plan to send an additional 400-500 employees to the region. In recent days, we have already increased our presence,' Maurer stated.
