VIDEO: We Can Work for the Future. The President of Armenia Meets with the King of Jordan

The short working visit of the President of the Republic of Armenia, Armen Sarkissian, to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has begun. This was reported by the presidential office of Armenia.

The President of Armenia continues meetings with leaders of various Arab countries to reaffirm our friendship and readiness for cooperation with those countries, to expand and strengthen ties.

The official welcoming ceremony for the President of Armenia took place today at the Royal Palace of Jordan. The national anthems of Armenia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan were performed by a military band.

After the welcoming ceremony, a private conversation occurred between President Armen Sarkissian and His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, followed by an extended meeting. The meeting was attended by Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Maha Ali, and other officials.

King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein holds great authority in the Islamic world; he is a representative of the Hashemite royal dynasty, the 41st descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, and ascended the throne on February 7, 1999. King Abdullah II is the custodian of Christian and Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.

Welcoming the visit of the President of Armenia, King Abdullah II stated that strong friendship and historical ties unite the two countries. He warmly recalled his official visit to Armenia last February and expressed gratitude to the President and people of Armenia.

It was noted that Armenia is currently facing numerous challenges, and as a good friend and ally, Jordan expects to work closely and provide support.

President Armen Sarkissian thanked the King for the warm hospitality, supportive words, and ongoing readiness to further develop relations at all levels between the two countries. He recalled constructive discussions with the King of Jordan in Yerevan months ago and plans oriented towards the future.

“There is mutual trust, and we can work for the future,” said the President of Armenia. “In difficult times, it becomes evident who your true friend and ally is.” Noting that there is hope for a way out of any difficult situation, the President expressed confidence that the planned programs will be realized and deeper cooperation will be established.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, addressing the potential for more effective utilization of the existing potential in developing bilateral relations and various fields, the President of Armenia and the King of Jordan expressed readiness to promote mutually beneficial cooperation. They noted that both countries have numerous commonalities, are bearers of ancient civilizations, and value human resources. Jordan, like Armenia, has made human potential its main driving force for development.

The interlocutors agreed that Armenia and Jordan could cooperate successfully, particularly in the fields of modern technologies, education, science, healthcare, food security, and tourism. The experience of Jordan in working with displaced people may provide valuable lessons for Armenia.

The meeting also addressed joint efforts in combating the coronavirus, its health and socio-economic impacts, as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern, particularly regarding efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

President Sarkissian informed the King of Jordan in detail about the consequences of Azerbaijani-Turkish military aggression against Artsakh and, in this context, the created situation. The Jordanian side noted that it has leveraged its connections and authority in international platforms to contribute to peacebuilding efforts.
