Vladimir Putin Details How the Agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh Was Formed
During the signing of the agreement on Nagorno-Karabakh, Russia played only the role of a mediator and assumed the responsibilities for the peaceful separation of the parties, stated Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Russia was fulfilling only the mediator role, and by that document, was taking on the obligations to carry out the peaceful separation of the parties. This is what we are currently doing,” Putin announced during an appearance on the Russia 1 television channel.
He emphasized that the authors of the statement are the three parties: Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan. “As for the text itself, we did this together — myself, of course, with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. There was no other way, because, in essence, this was an agreement between the two parties,” clarified the Russian president.
