Turkey to Deploy Troops in Nagorno-Karabakh Within a Year

Turkish military personnel will be involved in a monitoring center for the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh within a year, reports RIA Novosti, citing the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

According to Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar, Turkish troops will soon be sent to Azerbaijan as ground forces have completed their preparatory work. “Our soldiers will work in conjunction with the Russian center on the Nagorno-Karabakh issue for one year,” stated the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

On November 11, Turkish President Erdoğan announced that Ankara and Moscow had signed a memorandum regarding the monitoring of the ceasefire in Karabakh, and they would participate in a “joint peacekeeping mission.” Prior to this, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow and Ankara would work in the monitoring center on Azerbaijani territory and emphasized that “there was no discussion of joint peacekeeping forces.”
