France Launches Large-Scale Aid Program for Armenians Affected by Artsakh Conflict
The French authorities have approved and are beginning to implement a large-scale aid program for Armenians affected by the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh.
"With the decree of French President Emmanuel Macron and Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, France is starting to activate coordinated efforts to provide assistance to the Armenian population affected by the Artsakh conflict. The assistance system will be led by a special commission and the crisis center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, mobilizing public institutions, associations in solidarity with Armenia, and humanitarian associations included in the Coordination Sud organization," the French department's statement reads.
According to the department's data, assistance will be provided in three areas. The first area concerns medical assistance. "After the first emergency shipments of surgeons and medical equipment, a complete series of new flights will now be implemented. One such aircraft arrived in Yerevan on Sunday. It delivered medical items, including a field mobile hospital designed for 500 people, as well as blankets and hygiene items," the source reports.
The second flight is scheduled for November 27 and will deliver socially significant goods, including support from the Aznavour Foundation and the Armenian Support Foundation.
The second area of assistance will focus on strengthening hospital cooperation between the two countries, which will be funded by the French Foreign Ministry.
The third direction will be support for projects in Armenia implemented by humanitarian organizations, as well as UN agencies. "France will provide direct financial assistance to local organizations operating on-site," the Foreign Ministry's statement concludes.
