80-Year-Old Shushi Resident Johnik Tevosyan Subjected to Inhumane Treatment in Video
During the fact-finding mission of the Artsakh Human Rights Defender, it has been revealed that the individual shown in the accompanying video, who was subjected to inhumane treatment by the Azerbaijani armed forces, is 80-year-old Johnik Tevosyan, a resident of Shushi. This was reported on Facebook by the Artsakh Human Rights Defender Artak Beglaryan.
"It has been established that Johnik Tevosyan, who appears in the accompanying video and has been subjected to inhumane treatment by the Azerbaijani armed forces, was unable to leave Shushi and fell under the control of the Azerbaijani armed forces. Family members of Johnik Tevosyan have contacted our office, requesting assistance in protecting their relative's rights. We have forwarded the available data to the International Committee of the Red Cross, requesting urgent measures to ensure the protection of the life and other rights of the Artsakh citizen in accordance with the norms of international humanitarian law.
This video once again demonstrates the systemic and deeply-rooted nature of anti-Armenian sentiments prevailing in Azerbaijan, which are fully encouraged by the state. This incident is a part of a larger chain of anti-Armenian sentiment and war crimes, and it is regrettable to note that such brutal incidents are not only openly welcomed by Azerbaijani society but also continue due to the blindness, deafness, and silence of the international community. Together with the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, we will present this case to the relevant international bodies and remain committed to ensuring appropriate evaluations are made," he wrote.
